The Lauda

Lauda is a poetic-musical genre that originated in Italy in the 12th century and was used to convey texts and concepts to an illiterate population.

What we know

Scholars have studied lauda primarily from a literary or musical perspective, but there has been little research into its creation, transmission, and societal significance.

What we do

Our project aims to explore lauda’s intermediality by collecting, transcribing, and analyzing its texts and music, creating an open-access database, and conducting workshops and conferences on related disciplines.
