The LAUDARE project takes a strong interdisciplinary approach, using a variety of methods to tackle a wide range of research topics and challenges
The team members engage in an extensive survey of lauda sources in libraries and archives in Italy and abroad, in order to draw a new map of both the present institutional preservation and the historical dissemination of lauda.
Sources of lauda containing evidence of the melodies accompanying the poems are digitized, transcribed, and analyzed. Digitized images and descriptions of the sources, along with lauda text and melody transcriptions are compiled and organized in a database.
Melodic patterns and music-text relationships are analyzed using statistical techniques and AI methods. Joint analysis with other corpora, including Italian folk songs and medieval repertoire, are conducted in the attempt to map the distribution of lauda sources and their interdependence with sociological and geographical characteristics.
